The Norman influence produced Middle English, which lasted from the 11th until the 15th century. Towards the beginning of the 13th century, the changing political climate in England led to a decline of Anglo-Norman and a resurgence of English as it began to be used in Parliament and government documents. The most famous writer during this period was Geoffrey Chaucer who wrote The Canterbury Tales.
